Position Summary

Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member of our team to lead our Diversity, Belonging, and Culture team. If you join us in this position, you will lead the strategy, design, delivery, and evaluation of programs that help us open Space for Everyone from Everywhere! This new role is both strategic and tactical, and will have a direct connection to People and companywide initiatives. We’re looking for an experienced leader in the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) field who gives a damn about making a difference in the aerospace industry and in our communities and has the creativity, tenacity, and expertise to help further enrich our culture.

This is a full-time  position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California with regular travel to our test site at the Mojave Air and Spaceport and flexibility for some remote work.

• Design and deliver an integrated DEI and Culture strategy, closely collaborating with the VP of People & Culture and other stakeholders
• Partner, coach, and support your colleagues across the various People functions to integrate Diversity, Belonging, and Culture into their work; serve as an internal consultant, partner, and coach
• Conceptualize, facilitate, and oversee internal Diversity, Belonging, and Culture programs (ex: teammate learning, roundtable discussions, speakers, etc.); evaluate the impact of our programs as you shape the future of our DEI programs
• Deliver and maintain robust recognition and celebration programs across our enterprise (People Awards, recognition platform, holiday events, milestone celebrations, etc.)
• Support, mentor, and advocate for our seven (and counting!) employee resource groups (ERGs)
• Consult and shape our internal and external communication efforts, working with the Brand and People teams
• Lead and develop one direct report and oversee relationships with multiple internal indirect partners and external venders to achieve our Diversity, Belonging, and Culture goals
• Include and inspire others through community partnerships, events, and other collaborations
• Support our thriving culture, helping us establish ways of working that are truly Virgin and will stand the test of time
• Support other People Team functions and duties as they come up
• Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place
• Constantly learn new things—and share them with your team members
• Perform other duties assigned

• High school diploma or GED
• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
• Minimum 8 years related experience in diversity, inclusion and/or culture work
• Experience project managing multiple high-impact learning & development solutions in a very fast-paced environment.
• Track record of designing and implementing new learning programs and measuring their success.
• A passion for making connections with people and building critical relationships in the business.
• Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement.
• Highly positive mental attitude. Doesn’t bring just the problem, but a thoughtful set of solutions.
• Generally high level of all-around awesomeness.
• Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment

• Ability to add something unique and positive to our team
• Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed
• Must be able to stand for extended periods – 8 hours minimum
• Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces
• Physically able to handle items weighing up to 25lbs (unassisted)
• Valid CA driver’s license required with clean driving record
• Must be able to provide proof of US-approved Covid-19 full vaccination status, unless otherwise exempted by an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation from Virgin Orbit

• Relevant certifications in HR, L&D, Project Management, or Coaching
• Graduate-level work or research in relevant learning topics
• Experience leading orientation, intern, & leader development programs
• Curriculum design experience and course creation tool proficiency
• Experience with an enterprise LMS system 
• Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space
