Position Summary


Virgin Orbit National Systems is seeking a Senior Capture Manager. S/he will be responsible for outlining, developing and securing business opportunities that result in launch services as well as engineering and analysis services, sales, and revenue. This position is responsible for identifying programs, opportunities and subsequent action plans that represent significant growth potential for Virgin Orbit National Systems. This position is responsible for defining the capture management process, including proposal management activities for the VO-NS team.  Identifying and managing internal and external resources needed to create, shape, and win with compelling proposal projects are expected.  The Senior Capture Manager will develop relationships across the industry including government, customers, decision makers, subcontractors and teammates with a goal of maximizing awareness of LauncherOne’s capabilities and value proposition. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining the baseline of key revenue targets for the company.  This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. This is a full-time position at our facility in El Segundo, California.  

Your Mission

  • Captures and creates missions by locating, developing, defining, negotiating, and closing key business relationships across the National Security Space organizations
  • Manages their opportunity forecast with clear and accurate opportunity review materials for the VO-NS team including, bid strategies, criterial technical areas of interest, and technical and contractual requirements
  • Leads the proposal kickoff, planning, preparation, writing, and submission process
  • Locates and develops potential commercial partnerships; discovering and exploring opportunities.
  • Create customer presentations that translate customer, product, and competitor strategies into clear, tailored value propositions for products and services
  • Represent Virgin Orbit National Systems at trade shows and other customer-facing events
  • Contributes to development of the product roadmap from customer needs
  • Pulls in data from across the team to assist with target definition and linkage between program execution, business management and the capture management process
  • Contributes to market forecasts by remaining up-to-date on the latest space systems competitive landscape and market
  • Works with the President and Director of Operations to develop Virgin Orbit National Systems strategy and synchronizes with the Virgin Orbit strategy. This includes creating strategy and investment positions for coordination and update to the VO-NS Board
  • Help VO-NS do our part to make the world a better place
  • Constantly learn new things - and share them with your team members

What you bring

  • B.S. Degree in Science/Engineering strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years professional relevant working experience in the Aerospace & Defense industry
  • Knowledge of existing commercial and government space ecosystem, with an emphasis on launch and satellite providers
  • Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills
  • Proved success in capturing existing government opportunities
  • Proved success in creating new government opportunities
  • Proved knowledge of government contracting and acquisitions
  • Proved successful relationships with senior officials and program contacts within the government
  • Minimum of 30% travel will be required for this role.
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment

  • Graduate Degree (M.S. in Science/Engineering or M.B.A) strongly preferred
  • Cognizance and understanding DoD and IC space systems, architectures, acquisition processes and evolving space defense and resilience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage internal and external company resources that are part of the extended Business Development team and function
  • Demonstrated ability to source and close sales. Must have excellent communication skills and be able to present complex technology and business value proposals to executive and middle management of the customer community
  • Passion for space exploation and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space
  • Ability to thrive as a 'one person team'

Clearance Requirements:


Position requires you have a current Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) that has been completed within the last 5 years.
