Senior Manager, Enterprise Applications


Position Summary 

Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our Information Systems team to serve as a Senior Manager of Enterprise Applications.  


If you join us in this position, you will be responsible for managing the implementation and support of the Launcher One Manufacturing Execution System solution (MES), a key enabler and critical component to achieving our business objectives.  As a leader of this high-visibility program, you will be accountable for relationship management and partnerships with in-house and remote MES, Oracle ERP, Teamcenter PLM, Manufacturing, Engineering and Quality teams.


This role is for a hands-on manager with direct reports, who has great attention to detail and excellent people skills.  This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.

Your Mission

  • Oversight of and functional expert for the Launcher One MES business applications.
  • Scoping, sizing, design and documentation of configuration and customizations.
  • Experience in integration with major ERP systems (preferably Oracle EBS).
  • Super user functional training, creation and maintenance of training material.
  • On-going MES level one (direct) support.
  • Liaison to level two (remote) support groups.
  • Reporting on open support tickets and ticket burn down rates.
  • Key contributor in identifying process improvements, implementing changes and ensuring best practices.
  • Collaborate and partner with other departments to help support the business from an accounting and financial reporting perspective.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Mentor and develop team members, create succession plans and identify/recruit key talent.

  • Perform other duties assigned.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering or similar discipline focused on technical business operations; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of direct, hands-on experience working directly with Manufacturing Engineering Systems, specifically focused on implementation and management-level system administration.
  • Experience managing system administration and/or business analyst staff.
  • Proven experience in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment; preferably in aerospace.
  • In-depth practical understanding of a majority of the following design and manufacturing applications:
    • Oracle ERP - r12
    • Solumina MES/QMS
    • TeamCenter PLM and NX
    • SQL DBMS
    • JIRA, Confluence, Jitterbit or Mulesoft
    • Tableau and MS Power BI
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and technical capabilities.
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment.
  • Self-driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement, inter-team communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space.
  • Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime during mission campaigns and system shutdowns/maintenance periods.
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15).
  • Must be able to provide proof of US-approved Covid-19 full vaccination status, unless otherwise exempted by an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation from Virgin Orbit.
