Event & Studio Production Coordinator


Position Summary


This position with the Brand & Communications Team will support our company’s online broadcast and in-person events, ranging from live streaming rocket launches to company holiday parties to VIP events for C-Suite customer representatives. This role will coordinate project delivery elements within financial and time constraints, including event planning, design, and production.


Much of this teammate’s work will happen in our in-house studio, where they will support webcast and live stream workflow, gear management, and more. On other days, this teammate will be planning and executing live events that take place in our rocket factory, in nearby venues, or even at spaceports around the world.For a self-motivated and effective event and studio production coordinator, this job offers the opportunity to help make history as we bring space launch to new customers and as we help satellite makers from NASA, the Department of Defense, and from commercial and government entities all around the world follow along as their satellites are delivered to Earth orbit (and sometimes beyond).


This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California with remote work flexibility when that does not interfere with event planning, studio activities, and other key duties.

Your Mission

  • Produce or support memorable, on-brand, in-person events for employees, customers, and other VIPs
  • Collaborate and coordinate on aspects of the creative vision for online and in-person events
  • Work within budget, providing clear tracking of the financial aspects of each project, to be proposed, reviewed and approved by leadership
  • Create, coordinate, and manage event status reporting, communications/meeting management, documentation, and stakeholder updates and presentations
  • Research, scout, manage, and coordinate across vendors, venues, agencies, freelancers, and contractors
  • Coordinate production logistics and coordination for events, trade shows, internal/external presentations, and various other special events – sometimes as a team of one
  • Assist with the planning, set-up, and execution of live stream productions, occasionally serving as the sole producer in the control room
  • Support our business development team in creating signature events and booths at industry events and trade shows
  • Track, curate, and care for all equipment in our in-house studio
  • Ensure compliance with insurance, legal, health, and safety obligations. (COIs, Legal review, etc.)
  • Identify and create new projects that ensure we are always improving
  • Act as a champion and driver of our Virgin Orbit culture
  • Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the space for everyone from everywhere

What you bring

If you want to join us, you’d better have all of these…

  • 3 - 5 years of experience in event coordination or event management
  • Experience selecting and managing vendors (e.g. catering, décor, A/V)
  • Experience operating within budgets
  • A keen eye for design and visual presentation
  • Basic knowledge of live video production roles and various equipment.
  • Hands-on experience as an events coordinator or lead with a solid background in production for company events, conferences, booths
  • Ability to think creatively about a variety of challenges
  • Some experience with Excel, project management tools, MS Office
  • Experience with live streaming video
  • Basic knowledge of live and video production roles
  • An open mind and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
  • Ability to support quick turn-around projects simultaneously
  • Strong administration/time management skills
  • Ability to form connections with internal and external partners and maintain friendly, positive, and productive relationships
  • Availability to work odd hours when needed
  • Good judgment, particularly in high pressure situations

  • Must be a U.S. person as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15).

  • Experience supporting events for 1,000+ attendees
  • BA Communications/Business, Event Management or Equivalent Experience
  • Knowledge of networking and the Network Device Interface (NDI) protocol
  • Knowledge of live streaming and simulcasting to social media platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo
  • Experience with international event production
  • 3+ years of experience in event production
  • Experience working with hardware or software streaming encoders/switchers such as OBS, Livestream Studio, Blackmagic ATEMs, or Newtek Tricasters.
  • Experience with 3D Design software such as Sketchup, Vectorworks, and/or AutoCAD
  • Ability to work under pressure and with ‘on the spot’ priority situations in a quick and effective manner
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Ability to thrive as a ‘one person team’.
  • Ability to add something unique and positive to our team.
  • Generally high level of all-around awesomeness.


ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
