Quality Inspector, 2nd Shift (Contractor)

 

Position Summary

 

Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as a Quality Inspector for our production operations. If you join us in this position, you will use your versatile set of inspection skills to support every manufacturing area for the LauncherOne small satellite launch program. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.

 

Your Mission

  • Provide quality oversight and support for the assembly of LauncherOne’s rockets
  • Perform inspection, verification and analysis to evaluate the quality of products against design and process requirements
  • Communicate effectively, in both written and verbal formats, with engineering, management and production personnel to convey product acceptance criteria and inspection results
  • Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place
  • Properly document and process non-conformances and suspect conditions
  • Comply with safety regulations and promote a safe working environment
  • Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place.
  • Constantly learn new things—and share them with your team members.
  • Perform other duties assigned.

What you bring

If you want to join us, you’d better have all of these…

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 3 years of experience working in an aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Solid understanding of composite manufacturing processes, from layup and curing to bonding and final mechanical assembly
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and/or other relevant aerospace industry standards
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Self-directed with excellent organizational skills and problem-solving skills
  • Basic math and technical writing skills
  • Proven hands-on inspection experience in the aerospace industry using a variety of precision measurement tools
  • Attention to detail and follow through
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of company personnel
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
  • Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement
  • Ability to add something unique and positive to our team
  • Generally high level of all-around awesomeness
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15).
  • Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space.
  • Ability and desire to perform in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment.
  • Self-driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement, inter-team communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to provide proof of US-approved Covid-19 full vaccination status, unless otherwise exempted by an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation from Virgin Orbit.

  • Proficiency with GD&T and surface plate inspections
  • Experience operating CMMs using PC-DMIS
  • Knowledge of mechanical assembly, fluid systems, and avionics systems integration
  • NDT familiarity/experience (X-ray, dye pen, ultrasonics, etc.)
  • Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space
  • Ability to thrive as a ‘one person team’.
  • Ability to add something unique and positive to our team.
  • Generally high level of all-around awesomeness.

 

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
