Facilities Technician


Position Summary 

Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as Facilities Technician. If you join us in this position, you will assist in creating an efficient and organized workspace for the LauncherOne small satellite launch programs test facility. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. 


This is a Full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California launch test and operations site in beautiful Mojave, California.

Your Mission


  • Assist in repair and maintenance of equipment
  • Move heavy equipment
  • Drive forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and sky trackers
  • Broad technical knowledge
  • Respond to preventative maintenance tickets and requests
  • General clean-up and maintenance of work areas
  • Painting Experience including use of airless spraying, preparation, masking , and  mixing
  • Experience with general facility infrastructure repair and upgrades
  • Must adhere to proper safety guidelines at all times


What you bring

If you want to join us, you’d better have all of these…


  • High school diploma or GED, 3+ years of professional experience in a relevant role; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Intermediate mig welding, plasma cutting, and torch cutting experience
  • Skilled knowledge of power tools including but not limited to hammer drills, grinding wheels, angle grinders, jig saws
  • Basic computer skills and understanding of work ticketing and reporting systems
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15)
  • Must be able to work varying hours/shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time – 8 hours minimum.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and able to maneuver in tight spaces.
  • Physically able to handle items weighing up to 25lbs (unassisted).
  • Valid CA driver’s license required with clean driving record

  • Graduated from a technical college or other recognized apprenticeship
  • Self-motivated and works well within a team atmosphere
  • Experience in a fast-paced test operations facility
  • Experience using a forklift is a plus
  • Experience with CMMS Software (User Level)
  • Self-Starter and ability to be successful with minimal supervision
  • Experience using an ERP system is a plus
  • Must be hands on person willing to do anything
  • Certifications or similar within aerospace, aviation or automotive
  • Ability to add something unique and positive to our team.
  • Generally high level of all-around awesomeness.

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
