Position Summary

Virgin Orbit is seeking a new member for our team to serve as a Communications Officer—someone who can help us tell our story to the world at large and to our colleagues here in the company.

A key part of our quest to boost imaginations and to launch the small satellite revolution is telling the story of what we’re doing. From the shop floor of our rocket factory to the mind-boggling missions being undertaken by our customers’ satellites, there are plenty of great stories to tell; and we’re committed to sharing them in an open, transparent, and inclusive way.

If you join us in this position, you will make a major contribution to the way we communicate with the world at large. This will include both traditional and social media. In the past, we haven’t been very active on social media in particular—we’ve been kind of busy, you know, building rockets—but now, as we prepare to enter into routine commercial service with LauncherOne, it’s time to change that. Additionally, this job will help us communicate internally. As a growing company with multiple locations and a broad and diverse range of roles and backgrounds, it’s important that we clearly communicate what we’re doing, what comes next, where we have room for improvement, where we can celebrate challenges conquered and everything else.

We’ll bring the rockets, you bring a great work ethic, a love for space, and your internet credibility. Come be our Lt. Uhura! This is a great job for a space-lover who doesn’t necessarily need to have an engineering or science degree to make a meaningful contribution.

This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.

Your Mission

  • Regularly harvest information from all corners of the company and distill it into stories and updates that are useful and interesting to all of our teammates
  • Develop and maintain healthy, transparent, and successful relationships with our relevant media outlets, including trade, local, and general press
  • Prepare statements, talking points, op-eds, and the like for executives or on behalf of the company
  • Track our media coverage, noting what worked well and what didn’t
  • Respond to all media requests promptly, appropriately, and awesomely (often under very tight deadlines)
  • Help ensure the media outlets that should be talking about us are talking about us
  • Manage Virgin Orbit social media accounts and communities (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other platforms that haven’t even been invented yet, probably)
  • Write and create awesome content for the company website, newsletters, customer communications, and education and outreach materials
  • Chip in with some metaphorical heavy lifting for external events, ensuring we treat our media and other related guests with legendary Virgin attitude and service
  • Represent our company, our employees, and our customers in a way that makes us all proud
  • Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place
  • Constantly learn new things—and share them with your team members
  • Define, refine, and deliver content in our distinct voice and tone
  • Act as a champion and driver of our Virgin Orbit culture
  • Spearhead new projects and experiments that ensure we are always improving
  • Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place
  • Constantly learn new things—and share them with your team members
