    Position Summary

     

    Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as the Aircraft Maintenance Manager. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail, is organized, has excellent people skills, and can adapt to shifting program objectives. This is a full-time position, based out of our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.

    Your Mission

    • Oversee and manage the aircraft maintenance workload, resources, and activities for an assigned work group or several work groups at line and/or hangar operations maintenance stations.
    • Maintain safety, compliance, dependability, reliability and financial performance of Virgin Orbit fleet of aircraft.
    • Remain in fair and harmonious relationships within his/her work group(s), the operations team, internal customers, vendors, FAA, and all business contacts.
    • Direct, administer, coach and coordinate the activities of assigned work group(s) in support of policies, goals, and objectives established by the Director of Flight Operations
    • Manage and direct the operation toward its primary objectives by performing the preceding duties personally or through subordinates

    What you bring

    • Associate's and/or Bachelors of Business or related degree is preferred. However, consideration will be given for equivalent aircraft maintenance operational leadership experience
    • A&P License required
    • A successful Line and/or Base station operations track record and experience at a crew chief, tech crew chief, or other related Manager leadership position
    • At least 10 years verifiable hands-on experience spent in the repair, maintenance, overhaul or manufacture of narrow body, business jet or military aircraft
    • Minimum of 4 years of direct management experience in maintenance arena
    • A successful track record and experience with process improvement in maintenance and/or production environments
    • Experience in positions requiring resource forecasting and management, and workload planning in maintenance environments
    • Ability to work in a fast paced start-up environment
    • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to support operational needs and be on-call
    • Applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15)

    Preferred Skills and Experience:

     

    • Direct experience with 747 Aircraft
    • Strong mechanical systems background and show ability to learn and become proficient on new and/or customized equipment
    • Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management
    • Displays sound judgment, with the ability to make accurate and timely decisions
    • Must possess strong motivational, organizational, interpersonal and computer skills.
    • Sound ability to interpret printed or electronic maintenance manuals
    • Ability to adapt to paperless environment,

     

    Physical and/or Additional Requirements:

     

    • Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed.
    • Must be able to travel 40% or more of the time and/or be on call as needed.
    • Must be able to stand for extended periods – 8 hours min.
    • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces- 3+ hours min.
    • Physically able to handle items weighing up to 40lbs (unassisted).

     

    ITAR Requirements
    To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
