    Position Summary

    Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as Senior Software Engineer. If you join us in this position, you will assist in the development of our internal integration toolkit used for production of the LauncherOne small satellite launch program. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.

    Your Mission


    • Implement a new software testing platform that will help streamline the checkout of the Flight Software. This role is an integral part in making sure we have high quality and automation in the platform, since it will be a main part in the continuous integration process
    • Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place

    What you bring

    If you want to join us, you’d better have all of these…

    • BS in STEM with 5+ years of experience or equivalent.
    • Proficient with object oriented languages and design patterns
    • Experience with Rust
    • Experience with high performance and low latency code
    • Embedded knowledge is a huge plus (socket or serial level communication)
    • Understanding of microservice architecture
    • Knowledge designing testable solutions using automated unit testing
    • Knowledge designing testable solutions using mock data and/or service to test for integration consistencies
    • Capable of writing code that is declarative and elevates readability through composition over inheritance
    • Organize code by features and demonstrate ability to package solutions that are modular
    • Working knowledge of API design over various transports such as HTTP
    • Able to implement frontend solutions that don't require frameworks (ie. web components, vanillaJS, etc.)
    • Understanding of relational databases and when to use them vs NoSQL DBs
    • Knowledgeable in the usage and application of git repositories, previous experience using Stash as a front end
    • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
    • Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement
    • Ability to add something unique and positive to our team
    • Generally high level of all-around awesomeness
    • Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed
    • Physically able to handle items weighing up to 10lbs (unassisted)

    • Previous implementation of databases
    • Experience in production environment following agile practices and light weight software development methods
    • Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space
    • Ability to thrive as a ‘one person team’, but work well as a Team Player
