    Position Summary


    Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as Mission Engineer within Systems Engineering and Integration & Test (SEIT).  If you join us in this position, you will be responsible for the technical execution of primary and rideshare missions for a Virgin Orbit customers that have purchased a launch for their respective spacecraft. This position will work with the customer, mission managers and the engineering/production teams to ensure program execution of the customers’ mission reliably and on schedule. Further, the customer experience is premier in the fulfillment of a mission. As many of our missions aggregate several different customers, this position will be working with multiple customers and engaging across the mission management and technical teams for optimal mission execution for the primary and rideshare customers for the LauncherOne small satellite launch program. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.

    Your Mission

    • Assist the Mission Manager in executing a mission for a Virgin Orbit customers, serving as the primary engineering focal for requirements and execution for all assigned missions to ensure on-time execution
    • Engage with industry payload separation systems and dispenser manufacturers and providers to create the complete mission solutions for different combination of payloads on a given mission
    • Assist the Mission Manager as well as working with the customer to mitigate and resolve technical and programmatic issues that arise
    • Provide information to Virgin Orbit management on the status of programs
    • Excel at supporting multiple missions and managing between missions
    • Work with technical counterparts in the customer community
    • Provide feedback to mission management, engineering and production teams on products and processes to improve the Virgin Orbit service offering
    • Provide technical support for new customer programs as needed
    • Provide a positive image of Virgin Orbit to the customer community 
    • Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place
    • Constantly learn new things—and share them with your team members

    What you bring

    If you want to join us, you’d better have all of these…

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science
    • 0-3 years professional relevant working experience in the Aerospace industry
    • Must have a technical background and be adept at working and solving technical issues
    • Excellent communication skills to deal with the customer at the working and management level as well as internal engineering and production teams
    • Excellent organizational skills to create the business and technical basis for flexible and efficient manifesting for rideshare customers
    • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
    • Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement
    • Ability to add something unique and positive to our team
    • Generally high level of all-around awesomeness
    • Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends during launch campaigns

    and you should probably have a bunch of these, too.....

    • Masters in Engineering or Science a plus
    • Prior spacecraft technical experience especially in regard to launch environments and interfaces.
    • Understanding of the state-of-the-industry in payload accommodations for rideshare payloads.
    • Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space



    ITAR Requirements
    To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
