    Position Summary

    Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as Senior Supplier Quality Engineer. If you join us in this position, you will help define, implement, manage and continually improve the supplier quality program for the LauncherOne small satellite launch program. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.

    Your Mission

    • Define, implement, manage, and continually improve VO’s supplier quality program
    • Support healthy and mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers
    • Work closely with Supply Chain to evaluate existing and potential suppliers
    • Create and analyze supplier metrics to identify issues and drive corrective actions
    • Interface with manufacturing, inspection, engineering, and supply chain to identify issues and drive process and design improvements
    • Ensure proper quality requirements are in place for all purchased hardware
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, practices, procedures and work rules to support and maintain VO’s Quality Management System
    • Drive process and product improvement projects in a team-based environment
    • Help define and develop process specifications
    • Manage the non-conformance landscape, escalate issues as appropriate, and evaluate effectiveness of corrective actions
    • Perform regular Quality audits
    • Manage configuration and material traceability of hardware from suppliers to our inventory shelves
    • Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place

    What you bring

    If you want to join us, you’d better have all of these…

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field plus at least 5 years of relevant experience
    • At least 3 years of experience working in an aerospace manufacturing environment
    • In-depth understanding of the manufacturing methods, materials, testing, qualification and quality issues involved in aerospace production
    • Demonstrated innovation in process improvements, knocking down barriers, and tackling challenging problems
    • Familiarity with APQP and PPAP processes per AS9145
    • Attention to detail and follow through
    • Knowledge of AS9100 or other relevant quality standards
    • Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time
    • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
    • Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement
    • Ability to add something unique and positive to our team
    • Generally high level of all-around awesomeness

    • At least 5 years of experience in a Quality Assurance role
    • Experience with composite hardware fabrication and assembly processes
    • Experience with machining operations
    • Experience with printed circuit board and harness fabrication and assembly processes
    • Basic understanding of a variety of NDT methods
    • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
    • Experience working closely with MES, PLM and ERP systems (e.g. Solumina, Teamcenter, Oracle)
    • Creative problem solver; able to work in multi-disciplinary teams
    • Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space
    • Ability to thrive as a ‘one person team’

    ITAR Requirements
    To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
