    Position Summary

    Virgin Orbit is searching for superhero interns who stand strong in the face of complex challenges.  As a Quality intern you will help build a rocket, engage with the entire company, work alongside the brightest in the industry and help shape the future of Virgin Orbit! We’ll bring the rockets, you bring a great work ethic, a love for space, and your credibility. This is a 12-week position in the summer of 2019 at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.

    Your Mission


    • Work with production, supply chain and engineering to define, develop and implement robust quality processes.

    • Drive process improvement projects in a team-based environment

    • Ensure compliance with company policies, practices, procedures and work rules to support and maintain VO’s Quality Management System

    • Develop tools to increase inspection throughput
    • Coordinate with teammates on product quality issues and the development of corrective actions
    • Make improvements to production plans, inspection methods, part flow, and workcenter layouts across the entire production floor, from receiving inspection to final assembly.
    • Perform Quality process audits, including planning, preparing, executing, reporting results, and follow-up
    • Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place
    • Constantly learn new things—and share them with your team members
    • Performs other duties as assigned

    • Currently enrolled in an ABET accredited university, pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in science or engineerin

    • 3.5+ GPA
    • Previous aerospace manufacturing internship experience
    • Basic understanding of common dimensional and NDT inspection techniques
    • Experience with 3D modeling and GD&T
    • Strong technical writing skills
    • Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and paperless/electronic work instructions
    • Demonstrated innovation in process improvements, knocking down barriers, and tackling challenging problems
    • Creative problem solver; able to work in multi-disciplinary teams
    • Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space
    • Ability to thrive as a ‘one person team’
    • Ideal candidates have will have completed at least their sophomore year by summer 2018, with significant engineering coursework completed by summer of 2019
    • Strong opinions about your favorite space movies and TV shows
    • Will-power to refrain from stowing away on rockets even when they just sitting there right in front of you
    • Ability to work under pressure and with ‘on the spot’ priority situations in a quick and effective manner
    • Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space



    ITAR Requirements

    To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
