Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as Manufacturing Engineer, Avionics for the LauncherOne small satellite launch program. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.
Write work instructions for the build, test and integration process
Responsible for the manufacturing and assembly process on the production shop floor
Create the requirements for manufacturing specification including ESD, FOD, in-process test and error-proofing, conformal coatings, soldering and repair processes
Provide technical expertise into the design of the components and assemblies to maximize quality level, minimize cost, and achieve rate targets
Responsible for the production layout of the process in the facility, continually analysing and planning workflow, capacity and space requirements
Responsible to develop error-proofing techniques to minimize risk and assure build quality
Provide support to root cause manufacturing issues in development and production
Provide the specification, evaluation and implementation of new capital equipment for the production process and material handling
Support the development and production of the avionics hardware
Serve as the link between engineering, production, quality and supply chain
Responsible for continuous improvement activities associated with avionics hardware
Support the supply chain team with supplier evaluations and risk assessments

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
