    Position Summary

    Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a talented electrical engineer for an Avionics Integration Systems Engineering position to help develop and integrate the avionics system for a brand new launch vehicle. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.

    Your Mission

    • Provide engineering expertise in the area of design, development and test of integrated avionics to support the functions of our launch vehicles
    • Develop a complete understanding of the end to end system analysis for vehicle voltage, current, timing and latency requirements
    • Develop connectivity and routing of wiring harnesses and mechanical configuration of top-level assemblies
    • Execute flight instrumentation systems from start-to-finish (system design, sensor selection/customization, installation, testing, data analysis, and report generation). This will include resolving novel instrumentation challenges.
    • Develop integration and integrated testing plans and procedures that will meet production needs, adequately verify functionality and ensure operational needs
    • Support engine testing, stage testing, launch and anomaly investigations
    • Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place

    What you bring

    If you want to join us, you’d better have all of these…

    • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
    • 3-5 years of experience in vehicle system design, vehicle integration or vehicle test OR an M.S. degree with 2+ years of professional & related experience
    • Familiar with wire harness routing design within a 3D CAD environment
    • Experience with electrical schematic software (Solidworks Electrical, ZUKEN, Mentor graphics or similar) preferred
    • Hands-on hardware integration experience including installation of components and harness and troubleshooting component, along with harnessing and sensor issues (including acceleration, pressure, acoustic, strain, position and thermal sensors)
    • Must be able to travel to test and launch site in Mojave and Florida
    • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
    • Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement
    • Ability to add something unique and positive to our team
    • Generally high level of all-around awesomeness
    • Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed
    • Physically able to handle items weighing up to 15lbs (unassisted)

    • Experience in automotive, aerospace, aircraft, or civil dynamics or instrumentation.
    • Experience conducting large scale and high channel count field tests with accelerometers, pressure transducers, strain gauges, thermocouples, and RTDs.
    • Experience with integrated hardware/software system test methodologies.
    • Background in mission planning tools, communication link ATA, link communications and Data Products Dissemination.
    • Experience in analog, digital or mixed-signal circuit design.


    ITAR Requirements

    To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
