Position Summary

Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as a Quality Systems Engineer. If you joined us in this position, you would work closely with every function across the company to define, document, implement and manage robust quality processes for every aspect of the LauncherOne small satellite launch program.  This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.

Your Mission

  • Help define, document, implement, manage and continually improve Virgin Orbit’s Quality Management System
  • Ensure robust Quality processes are built into all manufacturing systems
  • Maintain configuration control of all rocket systems, both hardware and software
  • Develop automated tools to clearly communicate configuration, hardware maturity and build quality status
  • Create Quality metrics
  • Develop and deliver training to teams as needed
  • Audit business processes and use findings to drive improvement
  • Ensure our rockets are made to the highest quality standards
  • Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place
  • Constantly learn new things—and share them with your team members

What you bring

If you want to join us, you’d better have all of these…

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field
  • At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a quality function
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Strong experience implementing, auditing and/or improving AS9100 or ISO9001 certified quality management systems
  • Strong experience working with various manufacturing software packages
  • Direct experience owning or supporting configuration management processes
  • Knowledge of configuration management best practices
  • Ability to support the program by reacting quickly to strategic changes in direction or scope
  • Demonstrated innovation in process improvements, knocking down barriers, and tackling challenging problems
  • Creative problem solver; able to work in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
  • Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement
  • Ability to add something unique and positive to our team
  • A generally quite high level of all-around awesomeness

… and you should probably have a bunch of these, too.

  • Experience with Teamcenter, Oracle, Tableau, Trac and Solumina
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python and PERL
  • Knowledge of major rocket sub-systems
  • Working knowledge of SQL and JSON
  • Ability to thrive as a ‘one person team’

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
