Position Summary

Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as Enterprise Data Architect. If you join us in this position you will lead the design, implementation, and support of VOs Business Intelligence solutions. These solutions will include an enterprise data warehouse, data migration mechanisms, data archiving mechanisms, reporting framework(s) and actionable dashboards. The Enterprise Data Architect will be supported by and working closely with MES, ERP and PLM systems leads as well as Management, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, Shop Floor and Quality subject matter experts and IT Administrators. This is a full-time position at Virgin Orbit’s aerospace facility in Long Beach, California.

Your Mission

  • Design and implement VO's own data warehouse to store and report on rocket’s digital data trail, all the way from as-designed to as-flown
  • Recommend, design, build and maintain data integrations to and from the data warehouse
  • Recommend and implement a data archiving solution
  • Design, build and maintain data reports and dashboards
  • Develop ad-hoc reports for management and key business user metrics and KPIs
  • Train and coach VOs systems and IT teams as well as key business users on report and dashboard building techniques
  • Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place
  • Constantly learn new things—and share them with your team members
  • Performs other duties as assigned

What you bring

If you want to join us, you’d better have all of these…

  • Degree in computer science or business fields
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience database and data warehouse design
  • Expert knowledge in databases, data warehouses, data integration, replication and mirroring
  • Expert knowledge in SQL (PL-SQL or T-SQL, preferably both)
  • Problem solver, able to work in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and leadership skills
  • Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods – 8 hours min
  • Must be present on site 100% of the time
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
  • Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement
  • Ability to add something unique and positive to our team
  • Generally high level of all-around awesomeness
  • Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed
  • Physically able to handle items weighing up to 10lbs (unassisted)

  • Experience in MS SQL Server or Oracle DB or both is preferred
  • Experience in Elasticsearch RESTful search and analytics engine is a big plus
  • Knowledge of Dremio data connectivity and analytics is a big plus
  • Knowledge of Tableau or other similar reporting frameworks is a big plus
  • Experience in aerospace, aviation or automotive/heavy equipment industries is a plus
  • Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space
  • Ability to thrive as a ‘one person team’

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
