Position Summary

Virgin Orbit is searching for superhero interns who stand strong in the face of complex challenges.  As a Supply Chain intern you will help build a rocket, engage with the entire company, work alongside the brightest in the industry and help shape the future of Virgin Orbit! We’ll bring the rockets, you bring a great work ethic, a love for space, and your credibility. This is a 12-week position in the summer of 2018 at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.

Your Mission

 

  • Evaluate and improve business processes in the areas of supply/demand planning material management, and procurement
  • Create tools to monitor the performance of our supply base
  • Identify opportunities for automation/technology with a focus in materials management
  • Develop cost models for various commodities of flight hardware
  • Help Virgin Orbit do our part to make the world a better place
  • Constantly learn new things—and share them with your team members
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  •  Currently enrolled in an accredited four-year university, pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management (or related field)
  • A top notch education including formal training, awards, internship experience, high GPA, a top of class student
  • Minimum 3.5 GPA strongly preferred
  • Previous supply chain internship experience is a bonus
  • Outside of class, you belong to clubs that build, design, and test stuff (a rocket club, Formula SAE, Robotics, etc)
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Database knowledge and experience (especially Microsoft SQL) is a plus
  • Experience leading and managing complex projects across various stakeholders
  • Ideally will have completed at least their sophomore year by summer 2017, with significant supply chain coursework completed by summer of 2018
  • Ability to work under pressure and with ‘on the spot’ priority situations in a quick and effective manner
  • Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space

 

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
