Position Summary

Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member to serve as Cost Analyst. If you join us in this position, you will support and partner with the FP&A team on cost management initiatives for the LauncherOne small satellite program.  The ideal candidate will have experience in a start-up and manufacturing organization around operational and program schedule analysis.  The role will require monitoring and presenting information manufacturing costs and budget performance along with providing strategic influence to the supply chain, production and business management organizations. 

This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.

Your Mission

  • Be a major contributor to the overall cost management production, manufacturing and supply chain strategies around planning, training and implementation
  • Develop and manage cost models for manufacturing initiatives with actual, standard and target costing
  • Manage inventory cost according to budget
  • Benchmark productivity and learning curve forecasting as well as target costing for higher volume buys, offshoring, outsourcing, etc.
  • Develop and present buy/cost analysis
  • Support supply chain supplier costing with benchmark cost breakdown data
  • Support the creation of production ramp plans by integrating direct material costs over time and labor leaning curves
  • Support the creation of dashboards for the manufacturing and business management teams
  • Assist FP&A team in developing and maintaining weekly and monthly status reports to keep management informed on program progress
  • Participate in strategic initiatives that focus on efficient utilization of resources, require financial analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support in the monitoring of department and program spend versus budget, reviewing expenses to determine if operating to plan
  • Work with FP&A team to support the preparation of annual budgets and monthly forecast
  • Assist with the organization of multi-layered program schedule and integration of Support the mapping/diagraming of new business policies and processes
  • Provide analytical capabilities, information and tools for operations to enhance the detection of current and future performance issues

What you bring

If you want to join us, you’d better have all of these…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related discipline
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience creating cost models and analyzing data from ERP and financial systems. Oracle a plus
  • Experienced in disciplines around program financials, forecasting, cost modeling and scheduling
  • Advanced Excel skills (Macros, VBA, functions, graphs, pivot charts, vlookup, simulations, solver, etc.)
  • Experience interpreting business information and creating necessary action plans
  • Demonstrated experience in support of capital equipment, purchase and analysis
  • Strong analytical, communication, presentation and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated and driven to make an impact
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
  • Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement
  • Ability to add something unique and positive to our team
  • Generally high level of all-around awesomeness

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
